About the Band -

Bette T

Acoustic Guitar & Vocals

Bette has been singing since childhood and took up acoustic guitar at the age of 13. Born into a musical family, around the dinner tableis where Bette & twin sister Barbara first started entertaining. Bette & Barbara have been harmonizing since. Background credits include a professional touring group (The Brothers & Sisters) in her earlier years, playing venues like Ceasar's Palace, Las Vegas and nation wide state fiairs and television appearances. Locally, Bette, along with other Scotch & Soda members, still plays with Front Page News, News Revue, and the Jammies. Scotch & Soda enjoys the opportunity to expand with ever more rich harmony and new types of music.

Rayman

Keys, Sax & Vocals

The Ray-man (VonGunten) was one of those very early bloomers, starting his career in early high school and forming "The Vonells", a top notch wedding & festival band that worked steadily for over 20 years. Ray has played in major venues throughout Wisconsin, including runs at Summerfest, Festa Italiana, Wisconsin State & Waukesha County Fairs. He’s spent time hobnobbing with bluesman bassist Rick Holmes (3 time WAMI winner), internationally acclaimed guitarist Billy Flynn, and also with WAMI nominees, "Zoot Suit Boogie" and "The Upsetters". Ray toured with Milton Bullock (of the Platters) playing Wisconsin casinos and clubs, and has performed at the Grand Ole’ Opry. With an R&B sax growl and honkey-tonk keys, and tantalizing vocals, Ray adds a particularly special flavor to "Front Page News".

Barbara

Percussion & Vocals

Surprise! …Barbara came from the same musical family as Bette! As kids they loved pretending to be on stage and at the tender age four, debuted before an audience at a northern Wisconsin resort talent night, singing “I’m A Little Teapot”. Well, the teapot’s bubbling over and no one’s pretending anymore. With a large family of five kids, Barbara’s pretty pumped that her family is among her best admirers. That keeps the teapot bubbling! Barbara shares the same professional credits of Bette, but Bette neglected to mention they competed for dates with Regis Philbin, Bobby Vinton, and Frank Sinatra, Jr. Barbara got the date with Regis though! Barbara and Bette also spent several years with the all female group, Lily, performing mostly original songs the band members wrote. Barbara’s smooth vocal style enriches harmonies and her percussion keeps the beat for acoustic Scotch & Soda.

Lady C

Bass Guitar &
Vocals

Milwaukee native Carole Hanzel's musical career and diverse style have taker her across the country. Playing early on in such local jazz and dance bands as Fine Line, The Mai Tais and the Best of Everything, who backed up famous Elvis impersonator Tom Green, Carole demonstrates skill on her instrument as much as versatility in her styles.

Carol toured Switzerland with Johnna Tucker and The Country Larry Band, playing bass as well as adding vocals.

Busier than ever, she plays with several venues including Front Page News, the Tom Sorce Group, Best of Everything, Jammin Jimmy Band and Big O. Carol also hosts a local blues jam Tuesday nights at Maimie's in Miwlaukee.

Hammer

Acoustic Guitar & Vocals

Ron was born a poor young baby boy ,bouncing around the ghetto's of Whitefish Bay, Bayside and Glendale Wis. He started playing guitar at 13 years old ,but then his instructor died without telling him and Ron just learned to play by his ear..
After time ,he realized it was difficult trying to slap those strings with his ear so he went to the more conventional fingers and pick style.

After some high school gigs with popular local groups like Brain Damage, and Who's yo Mamma, he was quickly discovered and went off to Hollywood where he performed with Nipsy Russell and Dorothy Kilgallen.

Wanting to express himself with original music and contemporary rock , he returned to Glendale to compose and play out with Avory which attained greatness by playing at Scotty's 351 Club for 3 days in LaSalle/Peru Illinois. After making his net $13.75 he went into the insurance field and put his guitar away for roughly 15 years..

Many years later he went to a jam session in beautiful downtown Thompson Wis and hooked up with his old buddy Rick Holmes and some weird guy named Sergio.. (nice hat though). Through that he met Juice, Bette, Barbara, Rayman, Dan, Leslie and the ever entertaining and evil Russel K who owned a bar/Restaurant where the Jam ended up. Everybody was happy with love and kisses until Russel got pissed and screwed up the Jam cuz we were TOO FRIGGIN LOUD. Screw him,, so we shot him and ate his food..

So anyhow ,now we're together again .

The end..
